The definition of cast is to throw (something) forcefully in a specified direction. What an energetic word! In 1 Peter 5:7 the word says,
Casting the whole of your care [all your anxieties, all your worries, all your concerns, once and for all] on Him, for He cares for you affectionately and cares about you watchfully. 1 Peter 5:7 AMPC
Casting our cares upon Him means we are literally throwing our worries away from us. Not to tomorrow, not to another person, not buried deep in our soul under ice cream, alcohol or some other self medication, but directly to God.
When we intentionally cast our cares we inevitably lighten our load. A lighter load means an easier more fulfilling journey to purpose not burdened by the weight of worries and anxiety.
The scriptures before 1 Peter 5:7 speak of the importance of humility and dependence on God. Pride, the opposite of humility, causes us to think that we can handle our lives all on our own and thus do not need God. Pride comes before a fall, and leads to constantly being hurt and offended (how dare they do this to me?).
Worst of all God opposes the proud. That means when you are full or pride/self-reliance/independence (from God) you are resisting His help and His will. He therefore then resists you.
Not a good look.
We must clothe ourselves in humility-much the way Jesus put on an apron before washing the feet of the disciples. People’s feet in these times were filthy with caked on dirt and dung from their travels in sandals. If Jesus Himself can stoop so low as to wash animal feces off the feet of his own followers, can we not humble ourselves and serve God and others?.
Once we are clothed in humility we are then in a position to cast our cares. The humble know enough not to rely on themselves for much of anything. They know that the true way up is down.
Therefore humble yourselves [demote, lower yourselves in your own estimation] under the mighty hand of God, that in due time He may exalt you…1 Peter 5:6 AMPC
As you press on in these unprecedented times working to live out your purpose and reach your goals, remember that if you humble yourself God will exalt you in due time. As you walk in humility, intentionally and forcefully cast your cares at the feet of Jesus. Then you can waltz into your purpose lighter, more productive and full of joy.
Lord, we thank you for your Word and grace and mercy toward us. Help us please Holy Spirit to clothe ourselves in humility and walk uprightly before you. Help us God to intentionally cast our cares at Your feet and walk away in peace knowing that you are most careful with us (1 Peter 5:7 MSG). Please God give us the grace to do your will and be pleasing in your sight.
In Jesus name,
PS If you don’t know Jesus as your personal savior He longs to come into your heart and have a personal relationship with you. Romans 10:9 says,
If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. NLT
Pray this prayer:
Lord Jesus, I come to you humbly asking you to forgive my sins. I believe that you died and rose again three days later to pay for my sins. Thank you for dying for me. Please Lord, come into my heart. I give control of my life over to you. Please God, from this moment forward help me to live for you and do your will. Thank you Lord, that now I am saved. I no longer have to fear death. Please help me be all you made me to be.
In Jesus name,
